Hike: Oregon Spotted Frog

Michael Parker will lead this hike to the Parsnip Lakes and surrounding habitats and discuss ecological communities associated with them.
We will visit large sag ponds surrounded by mature and second-growth forest, springbrooks inhabited by endemic snails and other interesting aquatic species, and shallow wetlands that are important breeding sites for a diversity of amphibians and aquatic invertebrates, particularly dragonflies and damselflies. We will explore this area at the end of the summer dry season, during a year of extreme drought. This will provide an opportunity to observe and discuss seasonal variation and potential future impacts of a changing climate.
Hike duration:  4-5 hours.     Length: 3-4 miles
Level:  Moderate.  No significant elevation changes, but a bit of off-trail bushwhacking through dense forest.
