Hike and Learn: Field Sketching

This Field Sketching will focus on the landscape as a sublime subject for art. During the Friday evening introduction, artist Sarah Burns will show slides and talk about these inspiring landscape paintings and sketches. Discussions will include a personal philosophy of painting landscapes and how time and place is key to the art. She will show visual examples and offer a few tips about sketching the landscape. On the Saturday field trip we will focus on capturing the character of the landscape, plants, trees and flowers, value, color, and composition near the Hobart Bluff trailhead inside the Monument. Artistic level: Beginning to advanced artists. Hike Level: Easy to Moderate

      Sarah F. Burns lives in Southern Oregon and paints full time. Sarah studied contemporary art at Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, academic realist drawing and painting at Ashland Academy of Art in Ashland, Oregon and went on to attend intensive workshops with Ben Fenske, Michael Grimaldi, Andrew Ameral in contemporary classical painting, drawing and anatomy.
