National Public Lands Day is a yearly event held every September. People all across the country celebrate their public lands by giving back. This event is specific to Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument and is happening a few weeks prior to the National event date on September 30th.
Volunteers will locate and map the natural tree clumping of previously cut areas (plantations about 40-50 years old) in the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument using the existence of old stumps as a guide. Volunteers will search out clumps of old stumps, GPS the clump, count and measure stump diameters, and try to determine tree species. This information will inform ecological restoration planners of good areas to plan natural tree clumping and spaces for maximum ecological value.
