HIKE & Learn: Pyrodiversity Begets Biodiversity

Register for Hike & Learn

Hike leader and ecologist, Dr. Dennis Odion will guide a visit to Grizzley Peak to explore an area that was burned in 2002. The hike will also include beautiful vistas of Mt. McLoughlin, Mt. Shasta, Pilot Rock, Mt. Ashland, and maybe even the Three Sisters. 

Hike Duration: about 4-5 hours. Length: 4.8 mile loop.

Level: Moderate. About 1000 ft of elevation change, but we will stop regularly.

On the day of the hike:

  • Be sure to bring a sense of adventure.
  • Wear comfortable hiking shoes
  • Bring plenty of water - it will likely be warm.
  • Bring lunch and snacks
  • Additional items: Hat, Sunscreen, Walking Sticks, Binoculars, Hand Lens
  • Bring layers

Be considerate of the group and meet on time at the designated location.

Directions: To carpool, meet at 8:30 am in the Shop n’ Kart parking lot (corner of Ashland Street and Tolman Creek Road) Park at the west end, near the Oil Stop.
