BioBlitz 2017 — Herpetology

Dr. Michael Parker, SOU professor leads surveys to observe and catalog amphibians and reptiles in the Monument. BioBlitz will be limited to 50 people; aged 16 years or older. An adult must accompany children below age 16.

Register for BioBlitz 2017: Herpetology

Where: Check in 8:00-9:00am; at BioBlitz Base Camp- Pinehurst Elementary School.

What: Citizen scientists (groups of 6) and SOU herpetology student leaders will survey diverse terrestrial and aquatic habitats in the Monument. Teams will be selected day-of based on preferences of location and terrain. 

Activity: Moderate hiking through uneven terrain which may include muddy and wet brush/meadows to record observations, take vital signs of the specimens found, record GPS coordinates, and take photographs for field identification. We will gather afterwards to compile information obtained by the teams and enjoy a slide show of findings.

What to bring: Lunch, trail snacks, water bottle, sturdy waterproof footwear, layers, sun protection.
